Li Yafang kept helping Ah Zhong keep watch and coquettishly said, “You’re going home—are you really willing to leave me all alone here? Aren’t you afraid I’ll run off with another man? Why don’t you just take me back to your place?”
Ah Zhong pretended to be reluctant and replied, “I’m not willing to part with you, that’s why I didn’t bring you home. The woman at home is a rough-looking, yellow-faced shrew. I’m afraid she’ll beat you up.”
Li Yafang pouted and brought up old grievances, “Before chasing me, you said you didn’t have a wife. Only after you succeeded did you admit you were married. You even said you’d divorce for me. Now it’s been over a year—when exactly will you get that divorce?”
To reassure his mistress to wait for him, Ah Zhong raised his hand and swore to Li Yafang, “I promise that this time when I go home, I’ll settle this matter. But you have to behave here, no going out with strangers after closing.”
Ah Zhong was a narrow-minded man. Since they got together, he never trusted Li Yafang and forbade her from contacting anyone from their hometown—especially men—being even stricter about that.
To prevent her from mingling with men, the clothing store could only sell women’s apparel.
Half a year ago, a male fellow townsman came to her shop to inquire about something. When Ah Zhong found out, he beat the man so badly that he ended up with a broken bone.
The greatest enemy of a wandering soul is loneliness. Li Yafang walked into the store, sat on Ah Zhong’s lap, and wrapped her arms around his neck. Twisting her waist, she said, “You’re not here, and I want some company during the New Year. Just let me gather with some people from my hometown. I promise there will only be girls, no men, okay?”
Seeing Li Yafang’s delicate and coquettish expression, Ah Zhong nodded, “Only females. If I find out you have any contact with men, don’t blame me for being harsh!”
Li Yafang was acting spoiled on Ah Zhong’s lap and didn’t notice that Xiao Yuxin had already closed the shop door and that a group of people was preparing to go to the dumpling restaurant.
To blend in with everyone, Brother Hui parked the car right outside Xiao Yuxin’s shop and didn’t leave.
Passing by the clothing store, Brother Hui noticed Ah Zhong cozying up to Li Yafang and whispered to Jiang Fan, “Watch that man in the shop—he’s Ah Zhong. He’s got some skills. Most of Lu’s men were recruited by him.”
Ah Zhong spotted Brother Hui and Jiang Fan watching him and quickly lowered the curtain of the cubicle. He also complained to Li Yafang, “I asked you to watch for the wind, but they still spotted us. I’ll be leaving here soon—I can’t stay. If the boss finds out, it’ll be trouble.”
Ah Zhong’s two facial scars were too obvious. Jiang Fan glanced briefly but didn’t look longer. Instead, his attention was caught by Li Yafang sitting on Ah Zhong’s lap—her looks rivaled beauties like Ah Ping and Shen Tingting. Compared to Ah Zhong’s fierce and intimidating appearance, Jiang Fan felt a pang of sympathy for Li Yafang.
