Chapter 116: A Youth Without Folly Is No Youth At All
"Please... please speak, I will tell you everything I know, hiding nothing," Sun Bao said, his voice trembling. He still dared not lift his head.
"I have a friend whose father was schemed against by Wei Dagang and now owes you tens of millions in usurious loans..."
"I... I know about this. It was Master Wei—no, Wei Dagang—who told me to arrange it. The man targeted was Lin Yuanzhi, the head of Changyuan Company. Wei Dagang had his eyes on his daughter and that vast plot of land where their factory stands." Sun Bao dared not conceal anything and confessed truthfully.
"I won't kill you. See that this matter is handled cleanly."
Lin Yang was determined to kill Wei Dagang, partly for the dignity of a grandmaster, and partly to completely resolve the troubles for Lin Yimo.
Hearing that he had a chance to live, Sun Bao did not dare to hesitate.
"I can take care of the loan issue. I will find the parties involved and tear up all the IOUs in their presence. However, as far as I know, the one who truly wants that land belonging to Changyuan Company is not Wei Dagang, but Cheng Wanqing." Sun Bao confessed every detail.
"The Black Widow of the West District. The name certainly precedes her. I will deal with the Black Widow. You lot clean this place up, take Wei Dagang’s corpse, and get out."
Lin Yang waved his hand. Sun Bao and his men, as if granted a reprieve, bowed repeatedly in gratitude, then diligently scrubbed the courtyard clean and hauled away Wei Dagang’s body.
"How are your injuries?" Lin Yang asked Deng Jinkui.
"Thank you for your concern, Mr. Lin. It’s nothing serious; I should be recovered in about half a month," Deng Jinkui replied.
"Follow me." Lin Yang walked into the house and wrote out two prescriptions for Deng Jinkui.
"Get the medicine according to these prescriptions. This one is for your injuries, and the other also aids healing but is primarily designed to assist in martial arts practice. Take a medicinal bath once a day."
Deng Jinkui immediately bowed in thanks, deeply moved; the injuries had been worth it.
"You are also an eighth-grade expert, yet you were no match for Zhao Weiming. Do you know why?" Lin Yang asked.
"Zhao Weiming practices internal martial arts; his Bagua Palm is unpredictable. I practice external arts, so naturally, I was outmatched," Deng Jinkui said.
"You performed well today. Facing the disciples of the Cheng family, you did not back down. You have backbone and loyalty, so I certainly won’t treat you unfairly. I will grant you a gift."
Deng Jinkui had good raw talent, and his potential for martial arts exceeded that of Jiang Zuofeng. Lin Yang intended to cultivate him and build up his own circle of subordinates.
"Go to the Murong family. They possess an internal martial art technique I gifted them called the Pine Crane Eternal Spring Fist. You may borrow it to study and practice. Combined with the prescriptions I gave you, you will have a chance to step into the Xiantian True Realm within half a year."
Deng Jinkui had originally thought that obtaining a medicinal formula for training was the greatest harvest, but he had not expected such a greater reward.
Overwhelmed, Deng Jinkui knelt down immediately. "Thank you for the gift, Mr. Lin. From this day forward, my life is yours."
Stepping into the Xiantian True Realm was the dream of every martial artist, but it required both talent and opportunity. Even with high talent, without an internal cultivation technique, it is difficult to break through the postnatal shackles.
"Get up. There will be times when I need your help in the future," Lin Yang said.
"I will go through fire and water for you without hesitation," Deng Jinkui vowed solemnly.
After Deng Jinkui left, Lin Yang called Murong Yun to inform her.
"Mr. Lin, you are helping my Murong family recruit a master. I will remember this favor."
Murong Yun, a shrewd woman, always knew how to speak in a way that was comfortable and pleasing to the ear. If it were a foolish person, they might be possessive of their own treasures and unwilling to share precious internal techniques with others. Even if the technique was a gift from Lin Yang, once it was in the Murong family, it became a legacy asset, and sharing it would surely cause resentment.
But Murong Yun was sharp and intelligent; she was not the slightest bit displeased. Instead, she immediately understood Lin Yang’s good intentions. Although the Murong family held a high status in Luocheng as a prominent family, they relied heavily on the reputation of the Murong clan. Their own foundation was somewhat lacking, with only Jiang Zuofeng as a loyal sixth-grade expert.
"You were already willing to give yourself to me, so I should show some reciprocation. This is called 'courtesy demands reciprocity,'" Lin Yang teased.
"If I weren't willing to give myself to you, would you not have helped the Murong family?" Murong Yun seemed somewhat dissatisfied with this remark. "Mr. Lin, I am willing to do so because you are in my heart and I love you. But this is definitely not a transaction. Please do not misunderstand my sincerity."
Lin Yang had not expected his casual teasing to upset Murong Yun. He instantly realized that a woman’s heart is always more delicate and sensitive, paying more attention to the details. It was like a married couple in daily life; the wife gets angry, and the husband often doesn't know where he went wrong—perhaps it was just an unintentional word or a thoughtless gesture.
"I apologize. I haven't been in a relationship before and haven't learned how to get along with women. I spoke out of turn." Lin Yang apologized immediately.
A man, after all, should be like his own subordinates—able to bend and stretch, to be mighty and strong, yet also capable of being gentle.
Murong Yun laughed happily, her face glowing with the joy and sweetness of a girl in the throes of first love. "A dignified Mr. Lin, a divine doctor and grandmaster, apologizing to a little woman—I am very happy."
Hearing the sweetness in Murong Yun's words, Lin Yang felt wonderful as well. The two chatted on the phone for quite a while; with the barriers broken, their affection escalated rapidly.
After hanging up, Lin Yang’s face was filled with a smile, his heart feeling sweet.
"Is this what love feels like?" Lin Yang whispered to himself.
Shen Limin, standing by, said, "Young Master, I see an emotion in your eyes and on your face that I have never seen before. At your age, you should enjoy the happiness and sweetness of love. That young lady from the Murong family is a perfect match for you."
Lin Yang smiled knowingly and said, "Uncle Shen, you’re so knowledgeable about this—is Vivi also dating in school?"
"That girl Vivi likely won't date easily. Your Uncle Shen here was young once, too, and I have loved before."
Shen Limin knew his daughter’s heart belonged to Lin Yang, so how could she date anyone else? However, Shen Limin had always known his place and status, never overstepping boundaries or harboring unrealistic thoughts. Over the past two days, he had seen with his own eyes that Lin Yang was even more unreachable than he was two years ago and was destined to be a man among the clouds in the future. Because of this, he would never speak of certain things.
"It’s fine not to date. She should focus on her studies for now." Lin Yang nodded slightly. Having some free time and no interruptions, he chatted with Shen Limin.
"Uncle Shen, were you quite the romantic when you were young?"
Shen Limin laughed. "I did have a few girlfriends. A man who isn't romantic in his youth has lived in vain. If you achieve success when young but aren't romantic, should you wait until you are old and weeping at the sight of the moon?"
