Chapter 117: Is it Lin Yang?
Hearing Shen Limin’s words, Lin Yang laughed heartily and gave him a thumbs up.
"Uncle Shen, what you've said makes perfect sense. It is truly a profound insight; I have learned much from you."
Shen Limin waved his hand dismissively. "I haven't read many books; I'm just a rough man, and my words are a bit crude. Please don't mock me, Young Master."
"How could I mock you? As the saying goes, 'rough words contain true principles.' Listening to your words is better than reading books for ten years! This calls for a toast."
Lin Yang stood up and took a bottle of wine from the cabinet—a fine vintage gifted to him by Murong Yun. "Uncle Shen, I’d like to toast you."
Shen Limin held his glass with both hands and said, "You are too kind, Young Master. With your current status and position, the fact that you can still take us in, help our family, and sit here to drink and chat with a disabled man like me is my good fortune. It shows that you are approachable and unlike the common crowd."
"Uncle Shen, please don't praise me anymore, or I shall get arrogant."
After a few drinks, Shen Limin’s face turned flushed. Just then, Shen Youwei and Liu Julan returned home.
"Old Shen, why are you drinking with the Young Master without any snacks to go with the wine?"
"The Young Master has good news today and is in high spirits, so naturally, I must keep him company," Shen Limin replied.
"Then I'll go make a couple of side dishes for you," Liu Julan said.
"Auntie Liu, please don't trouble yourself. I have somewhere to go, so let’s continue drinking tonight."
At this moment, Shen Youwei asked curiously, "Brother Lin Yang, what good news do you have?"
"I have good news every day. By the way, have you found a place to live?" Lin Yang asked.
"Yes, we found a small three-bedroom unit. The location is great, near the subway, the neighborhood environment is lovely, and most importantly, the price is reasonable. We’ll let Old Shen take a look tomorrow, and if he’s satisfied, we’ll sign the contract," Liu Julan said.
"That's good. I'll make time to go with you tomorrow."
Lin Yang hoped they would move out soon. Living with him was inherently dangerous; if his enemies ever came knocking while he was away, the consequences would be unimaginable. They were just an ordinary family and should not be dragged into the world of martial arts and vendettas; they deserved their own lives.
After Lin Yang left in his car, Shen Youwei couldn't help but ask, "Dad, what exactly is Brother Lin Yang's good news?"
"He's in a relationship. Isn't that good news?" Shen Limin said with a hiccup.
Upon hearing this, Shen Youwei’s expression turned somber. Pouting, she said, "Just a relationship, that’s not really big news—it’s not like it’s a marriage."
Shen Limin and Liu Julan both knew that Shen Youwei was jealous, but the couple shared the same view on the matter: they had no unrealistic expectations.
"The Young Master today is likely not someone an average girl could be a match for," Liu Julan remarked.
"That is natural! You have both met the young lady—the eldest daughter of the Murong family. Whether it is her appearance, temperament, or family background, she stands alone at the pinnacle in all of Luocheng. She and the Young Master are a perfect match," Shen Limin said.
Shen Youwei had also met Murong Yun, and she had to admit that in front of her, she couldn't help but feel inferior. Murong Yun was a white swan soaring in the sky, while she was merely an ugly duckling.
Shen Youwei bit her lip and sat to the side in silence. Her heart ached, her nose felt sour, and she felt tears welling up.
"Weiwei, your father and I both know you like the Young Master. But you must understand that even if the Young Master doesn't mind, we are, after all, from different worlds. We weren't before, and we certainly aren't now," Liu Julan said, seeing her daughter’s sorrow and trying to comfort her.
"Look at what has happened in just the two days since we moved in. The Young Master nowadays doesn't even blink when he kills. His world is far removed from ours; we cannot reach it. Trying to force our way into it will only hurt ourselves."
Shen Limin patted Shen Youwei’s head and said, "Another enemy came today—one dead, one injured. The Young Master wanting us to buy a house and move out is out of kindness; he doesn't want us to get caught up in this. Just keep your feelings for him in your heart forever."
"The most common thing in this world is love that cannot be attained; regrets always run through the course of a life."
"Dad, Mom, I understand everything you're saying, but my heart just hurts, and I want to cry." Shen Youwei understood these truths all too well.
"Cry then; you'll feel better after letting it out. There is no shame in liking someone," Liu Julan comforted her. Shen Youwei hugged her mother and wept openly.
Lin Yang, while driving, suddenly sneezed. He went directly to the Luocheng administrative building with the goal of finding Cao Keming to ask for help in reviewing the files on his parents' car accident.
Cao Keming's secretary personally met Lin Yang at the entrance and escorted him in. He didn't have to wait long before Cao Keming arrived after finishing his meeting.
"Mr. Lin, sorry to have kept you waiting."
Lin Yang didn't beat around the bush and stated his purpose directly.
"You suspect that there is something wrong with the car accident that caused your parents' death?" Cao Keming asked.
Lin Yang nodded. Cao Keming gave a slight nod and said, "I will have someone deliver the files to you tomorrow. Furthermore, I will have the City Guard Bureau re-investigate the matter; we must get to the bottom of it."
Although the City Guard Bureau did not fall under the jurisdiction of the Finance Department, such a request was not difficult for Cao Keming to manage.
"Then thank you for your trouble, Director Cao."
Cao Keming waved his hand. "I feel quite guilty that I couldn't help you when you were ambushed by Chen Tianhao's men last time. Fortunately, you were unharmed and even managed to slay the White Fiend of the Purple and White Fiends."
After chatting for a while, Lin Yang rose to take his leave. On the road, Liu Chengzhi called him again. It must be that Yu Ping was having another episode. Lin Yang did not answer the phone; he would not soften his heart or easily forgive Yu Ping.
At that moment, a call from Lin Yimo came through. Just a moment ago, Sun Bao had arrived at their doorstep with all of Lin Yuanzhi’s IOUs, terrifying the entire Lin family. Feeling cornered, the Lin family had already decided to mortgage their company and factory to Wei Dagang to pay off the debts, otherwise, if things continued to accumulate, they would be ruined and destitute, unable to pay it off regardless.
But Sun Bao dared not demand the Lin family's company and factory. He tore up all of Lin Yuanzhi’s IOUs right in front of them, leaving the Lin family in utter bewilderment.
"Brother Bao, what is the meaning of this?" Lin Yuanzhi asked cautiously.
"Wei Dagang is dead. You no longer need to repay any of the money you owe. The IOUs have been torn up before your eyes. Director Lin, please forgive me for any previous offenses; I was only following orders," Sun Bao said with a bow.
"Master Wei is dead? That can't be." Lin Yuanzhi was shocked, and also deeply confused. Even if Wei Dagang were dead, Sun Bao had no reason to stop collecting the debts.
"Wei Dagang was personally slain by Mr. Lin. I also hope you will inform Mr. Lin that I have followed his instructions and destroyed the loan documents," Sun Bao said.
"Mr. Lin? Which Mr. Lin?" Lin Yuanzhi knew that Wei Dagang’s backer was the Black Widow and the Cheng family—who would dare to kill him?
At this moment, the image of Lin Yang surfaced in Lin Yimo's mind, and she subconsciously blurted out, "Is it Lin Yang?"
