Chapter 122: The Virtuous Helpmeet

“There’s no need for that. They’re all honest, hardworking people and would never accept such an enormous favor. Otherwise, I would have bought them a large house long ago.”
“I’ve already found a house. If everything goes smoothly, we’ll transfer the title today. Who would have thought that Miss Murong Yun would be such a jealous little thing?”
Lin Yang teased her.
“Ever since I was little, I’ve loved getting jealous. You’d better watch yourself from now on,” Murong Yun declared with a haughty air.
Lin Yang sighed inwardly. It seemed that being a playboy wasn’t easy after all.
A woman like Murong Yun—decisive, sharp, capable, and somewhat domineering—could not tolerate even the slightest impurity in her eyes. She was the most difficult kind of woman to handle.
There was still a long road ahead of him.
“You like getting jealous, and I like eating sweets. Sour and sweet together—we’re a perfect match,” Lin Yang joked.
“Even a man as ruthless and decisive as Mr. Lin can be this smooth-tongued.” Murong Yun teased him in return.
“You’ve never tasted me. How do you know I’m smooth-tongued?”
As he flirted with Murong Yun, Lin Yang kept an eye on the activity in the bathroom.
“All right, let’s talk business. Qin Yiling’s illness has almost completely healed. She’s very grateful to you and wants to visit you personally to thank you for saving her life. Will you see her?” Murong Yun asked.
“No.”
Lin Yang refused without hesitation.
“Why?”
Murong Yun had not expected him to reject the offer so decisively. She had assumed he would agree. After all, Qin Yiling was a direct descendant of the Qin family of Fengyang. The benefits of strengthening that connection went without saying.
At the hospital, she had personally heard Lin Yang tell Xu Feihong that he intended to cultivate a good relationship with the Qin family.
That was why she could not understand his reason for refusing.
Lin Yang said with complete seriousness, “Because I’m afraid you’ll get jealous.”
“Huh? That’s your reason? Are you serious?”
A hint of delight appeared in Murong Yun’s eyes.
“Of course I am! Tell Qin Yiling that I don’t want to see her, but she must not reduce my consultation fee by even a single cent. I need large quantities of aged medicinal herbs, such as century-old dragon-saliva grass, century-old ginseng and lingzhi, purple crow vine, and so on.”

“As long as they’re more than a century old, I want them all. As for the exact amount, you’re better at bargaining than I am. Try to maximize the benefits, all right?”
Lin Yang’s most immediate purpose in befriending the Qin family was to obtain medicinal herbs. Without their help, it would be extremely difficult for him to acquire such precious ingredients.
As his strength increased, he needed more and more herbs for his medicinal baths. The Qin family was undoubtedly an excellent channel.
“Leave it to me, then. By the way, my family has some medicinal herbs in its collection as well. I’ll send them over to you later,” Murong Yun said.
“Then I won’t stand on ceremony. As long as they’re precious medicinal herbs, I’ll take as many as you have.”
“There’s one more thing. Tang Daomin witnessed your medical skills with his own eyes. He’s been lingering at my house and may want to visit you to seek guidance in medicine. Since you need precious medicinal herbs, I’ll have him bring the gifts you want when he comes. What do you think?”
“You’re becoming more and more like my capable wife. What objection could I possibly have? I can only praise you for being exceptionally clever,” Lin Yang said.
“I’ll accept your praise.” Murong Yun smiled.
Seeing that Lin Yimo had finished bathing and was about to come out, Lin Yang hurriedly said, “I’m going to eat first.”
After Lin Yimo came out and got dressed, the two of them had breakfast at the hotel.
“I still have things to do this morning, so I won’t accompany you.”
Although Lin Yimo wanted to spend more time with Lin Yang, she also understood that he was no ordinary man. Clinging to him like a young girl might only have the opposite effect.
“Now that you’ve killed Wei Dagang and offended the Cheng family, you must be careful. Nothing can happen to you,” Lin Yimo reminded him as she straightened his collar before leaving.
“Don’t worry. Cheng Kuo is no match for me. He can’t do anything to me.”
Lin Yang kissed her forehead, then drove back to Noble Heights. Afterward, he took Shen Limin and his family to look at houses.
Cloudview Splendid Gardens was not far from Noble Heights. Under the agent’s guidance, they went to see the house first.
It was a modest three-bedroom apartment. The rooms were somewhat cramped, and the decor was outdated, though the price was relatively low.
“Are there any other houses in this community?” Lin Yang asked after looking around.
“There are, but they’re larger and considerably more expensive. Their budget is tight, so that limits their options,” the agent replied.
“Take us to see a larger one with better renovations,” Lin Yang said.

“Young Master, this one will do. It’s spacious enough for all of us,” Shen Limin said.
“Uncle Shen, let’s go by your budget. I’ll pay whatever is lacking.”
“That won’t do. You’ve already helped us enormously. How could we possibly let you pay? Besides, this is no small amount of money.”
Shen Limin continued to insist.
“Uncle Shen, just listen to me this time. You and Aunt Liu watched me grow up and treated me so well. For the sake of that affection, what does this little bit of money matter?”
After Lin Yang persuaded him for some time, they finally bought another, larger house. It cost a little over ten thousand dollars more than the original one.
Lin Yang paid the difference, and the transfer of title was completed that morning. At last, Shen Limin and his family were properly settled.
Lin Yang took Shen Youwei back to Noble Heights to move their luggage. As soon as they reached the door, they saw Liu Chengzhi waiting there.
“Youwei, go inside and start packing,” Lin Yang said, sending Shen Youwei ahead.
With an apologetic expression, Liu Chengzhi said, “Xiaoyang, I know you’re angry with your Aunt Yu and refuse to take my calls, so I had no choice but to come here to find you.”
“Uncle Liu, Aunt Yu brought this upon herself. There’s nothing more to say.”
Lin Yang had once been softhearted, but the two years he had spent being abused by the Qin family had taught him certain truths and hardened his heart considerably.
His master had also told him that no one could become truly strong while being merciful and indecisive. The path of cultivation was destined to be a lonely one.
“Your Aunt Yu was indeed in the wrong, but she has realized her mistake. As long as you’re willing to spare her and stop making her suffer, she’ll come here personally to apologize.”
Liu Chengzhi could not bear to watch Yu Ping being tormented until she was worse than dead.
“Uncle Liu, have you gotten the order backward? If I’m unwilling to go easy on her, does that mean she won’t apologize?” Lin Yang said unhappily.
“No, no, that’s not what I meant. I’ll have her come over right away to apologize and make amends. I only hope you’ll spare her this once for my sake.”
“If I weren’t considering your feelings, her fate would be far worse than this. Uncle Liu, I’ll resolve the matter for her—but not now, and not today.”
After saying this bluntly, Lin Yang prepared to walk into the garden.
Liu Chengzhi hurriedly stopped him again. “This... Xiaoyang, your Aunt Yu truly can’t endure it any longer. What about tomorrow? Or perhaps I can apologize to you on her behalf. If you still refuse to forgive her, then I’ll have no choice but to kneel and beg you.”
At those words, Lin Yang frowned, and the displeasure in his heart deepened.
