Hearing the words of Qi Yixin and the others, Zhang Shuyun found herself in complete agreement. She, too, could not believe that a young, inexperienced man could possibly possess any remarkable medical skill.

To Zhang Shuyun, Lin Yang’s bold and reckless words amounted to nothing more than the antics of a clown.

“Lin Yang, what exactly is your method to save my father? Speak up,” Cao Yanling pressed, though she, too, harbored doubts.

“To treat the illness, shouldn’t I first be allowed to see the patient?” Lin Yang replied.

“That’s unnecessary! All you need to do is hand over the Dragon’s Saliva Herb. As for the treatment, that’s not your concern,” Zhang Shuyun snapped, unwilling to waste any more words on him.

“Mother, why not let him try?” Cao Yanling murmured, clinging to a sliver of hope.

“Miss Cao, your father’s condition cannot wait, nor do we have the luxury of time to indulge in experiments,” Qi Yixin said with a sneer.

Cao Yanling was caught in a dilemma, unsure what to do.

At that moment, her phone rang. Glancing at it, she saw a message from a friend—information about Lin Yang.

As she read, her brow furrowed, her expression darkened, and anger flared in her eyes.

“Lin Yang, you lied to me!”

“What did I lie about?” Lin Yang asked, puzzled.

Cao Yanling held up her phone and said, “You have no knowledge of medicine. I had someone investigate your background. You’re the former young master of Starshine Group. Two years ago, your parents died in a car accident and you fell into despair, becoming addicted to gambling and drugs, nearly squandering your entire inheritance. If it weren’t for your formidable godmother, Qin Monong—the current chairwoman of Starshine Group—you’d be destitute by now.”

She laid bare Lin Yang’s past in one breath.

A faint smile played on Lin Yang’s lips. “What else did you find? Go on.”

“That’s more than enough. So what if you’ve trained your body? At heart, you’re a complete addict and a degenerate gambler. I can’t believe I actually had a shred of faith in you, thinking you might truly be able to save my father.”

“So he’s the godson of Qin Monong from Starshine Group. I did think his name sounded familiar,” remarked Qi Yixin.

The experts all felt vindicated and began to mock him.

“I told you he couldn’t be trusted.”

The hospital director said, “Someone like you—a wastrel and a gambler—daring to impersonate a doctor? Arrest him at once and send him to the City Guard’s office for detainment.”

Lin Yang no longer cared to explain, nor did he feel the need.

“A kind heart mistaken for malice. Very well, then, do as you wish,” Lin Yang said with a look of disdain.

Zhang Shuyun ordered the bodyguard, “Seize him.”

Cao Keming’s bodyguard was a Seventh Rank martial artist. Cao Yanling had brought Lin Yang to the hospital with two plans in mind: if Lin Yang truly had the skill to save her father, all the better. If not, the bodyguard could simply seize the Dragon’s Saliva Herb to save her father, and they could settle things with Lin Yang afterward.

The burly bodyguard clenched his fists, muscles swelling with power.

“Stop!” a voice called out from behind.

Everyone turned toward the voice.

A woman in a cheongsam entered, her poise impeccable—Murong Yun, accompanied by her younger sister, Murong Wan’er.

“Murong Yun?” Zhang Shuyun frowned slightly.

“Miss Murong,” Cao Yanling greeted her warmly.

Murong Yun nodded, though by rights she should have greeted Zhang Shuyun first.

Instead, she walked straight to Lin Yang and smiled radiantly.

“Mr. Lin, what brings you here?”

“I came to treat Director Cao, but they didn’t take me seriously. I was just about to leave when they decided to forcibly take what’s mine,” Lin Yang shrugged nonchalantly.

“In all of Luo City—no, all of South Capital—who would dare underestimate your medical skill?” Murong Yun declared, making no attempt to spare Qi Yixin and the other experts’ dignity.

But she was Murong Yun, and she had every right to say so. Even if Qi Yixin and the others were disgruntled, they swallowed their displeasure.

“Murong Yun, you know him? And you call him Mr. Lin?” Cao Yanling asked in disbelief.

The others were equally perplexed. Given Murong Yun’s status, how could she show such respect to this so-called degenerate gambler?

“Not only do I know him—Mr. Lin is a benefactor to our family, an honored guest of the Murong household,” Murong Yun replied with a smile.

Her words sent shockwaves through the crowd, leaving them dumbfounded.

“What? But isn’t he a gambler?” Cao Yanling exclaimed.

“That’s nothing but rumor, not fact,” Murong Yun said, turning to Zhang Shuyun.

Meanwhile, Murong Wan’er pulled Cao Yanling aside to quietly recount what had happened the previous day.

“Madam Cao, I heard Director Cao fell gravely ill, so I came to visit,” Murong Yun said.

“That’s very thoughtful of you,” Zhang Shuyun replied with a nod.

“Madam Cao, I urge you to trust Mr. Lin’s medical skill—he is a true miracle doctor. I came intending to recommend him should Director Cao’s condition prove difficult, but I see he’s already here, though regrettably there’s been a misunderstanding.”

Murong Yun’s words carried weight, and Zhang Shuyun began to reconsider.

“You’re certain his medical skills are truly remarkable? His age and background do raise doubts,” Zhang Shuyun said.

“Should you not trust him, Madam Cao, I am willing to stake both my life and the reputation of the Murong family as guarantee for Mr. Lin,” Murong Yun declared.

Her statement stunned everyone further. Murong Yun’s status was beyond question, and her solemn promise lent the matter even greater gravity.

“Mother, I believe what Murong Yun says. Let Lin Yang treat Father,” Cao Yanling urged, her doubts swept away by Murong Wan’er’s account.

Zhang Shuyun finally relented. “Very well, let him try.”

“Mr. Lin, please, save my father,” Cao Yanling said, even changing her form of address.

He scoffed. “And who do you think I am? I heal when I wish to. I’m afraid I’m not in the mood right now. Let them handle it.”

Lin Yang was deeply displeased. “What a joke—am I expected to come and go at their beck and call? Does my dignity count for nothing?”

“The Dragon’s Saliva Herb is here. If anyone wishes to take it by force, let them try.”

Tension instantly returned to the room.

Cao Yanling, now utterly convinced of Lin Yang’s ability, hurried to apologize.

“Mr. Lin, please don’t be angry. We were in the wrong before. I sincerely apologize.”

Despite her earnestness, Lin Yang remained unmoved, offering no reply.
