Chapter 23 There Are No Sisters in the Battlefield of Love
“Madam Cao, I haven’t finished speaking yet.”
“Please, go ahead.”
Zhang Shuyun’s expression soured; she secretly wondered if a hundred million wasn’t enough, and if he was still trying to raise the price.
“I treat and save people as I please. If I wish to help, I don’t take a penny. If I don’t, even if you’re a billionaire or a top official, no matter how much you offer, I’ll let you die.”
“Today, I’m actually in a good mood. Also, for Murong Yun’s sake, I’ll only take a consultation fee of one hundred yuan.”
Lin Yang raised his right index finger as he spoke.
“How much? O—one hundred yuan?!”
Zhang Shuyun and Cao Yanling could hardly believe their ears.
“Yes, just one hundred,” Lin Yang replied with a smile.
Zhang Shuyun felt embarrassed. She was well aware that with Lin Yang’s extraordinary medical skills, he had no need to curry favor with them.
Though Cao Keming was a finance director, he was nobody in Lin Yang’s eyes.
She realized Lin Yang’s symbolic fee was just as he said—a product of his mood and Murong Yun’s influence.
“No, no! One hundred is too little—at least a million! Divine Doctor Lin, we mustn’t be so inconsiderate,” Zhang Shuyun said gratefully.
“I said one hundred, so it’s one hundred. Madam Cao, no need to be so polite,” Lin Yang replied.
“Madam Cao, let’s just listen to Mister Lin,” Murong Yun chimed in, delighted. With one word, Lin Yang had earned her another huge favor in the Cao family. She hadn’t paid, but the result was the same, so she encouraged them.
“Very well. Then I’ll obey, and thank you, Divine Doctor Lin.”
Everyone was pleased with such an outcome, and Zhang Shuyun was overjoyed.
Lin Yang left the ward, and Murong Yun followed, whispering, “Director Cao’s poisoning—was it accidental or intentional?”
“It was definitely intentional. The culprit must be a master of poisons; otherwise, they couldn’t have concocted such a lethal toxin. You should warn them,” Lin Yang said.
Murong Yun nodded and went off to explain matters to Zhang Shuyun.
“Divine Doctor Lin, forgive us for our shortsightedness and failure to recognize your greatness earlier,” said Director Han Liqian, bowing in apology with several experts. Their attitude was sincere.
Lin Yang waved them off and sat on the sofa.
Qi Yixin also came over, bowed, and said, “Divine Doctor Lin, you truly opened my eyes today. As you said, I was a frog at the bottom of a well—my skills are still lacking. Would you accept me as your disciple?”
“No.”
Lin Yang rejected him outright.
“You must be joking, you old man. After all the humiliation and suppression you gave me, I didn’t hold it against you—and now you want to learn my medical arts? Dream on,” Lin Yang thought to himself.
Qi Yixin’s face was full of regret and disappointment.
“Divine Doctor Lin, on behalf of the First City Hospital, I sincerely invite you to come and consult with us,” Han Liqian tried to recruit him.
“Not interested.”
Han Liqian was disappointed but dared not press further.
“However, if you encounter any truly difficult cases, you can reach out to me.”
Lin Yang remembered his master, the Sage of Medicine, who taught that medicine’s essence was healing and saving lives.
If time allowed, he was willing to help.
Han Liqian was thrilled and quickly said, “Your healing hands and benevolent heart are a blessing for the people of Luo City. Thank you.”
To occasionally enlist Lin Yang’s help with tough cases was more than enough.
Lin Yang noticed Qi Yixin standing silently to the side and said, “Divine Doctor Qi.”
“Please, don’t call me that—it’s too much. You are the true divine doctor.”
Qi Yixin was humbled and anxious.
“I injured your son—aren’t you going to avenge him?” Lin Yang asked.
“My son acted foolishly and offended you; it was his own fault. When I return home, I’ll make sure to teach him properly,” Qi Yixin replied, full of humility.
“Don’t even think about being my disciple, but if you devote yourself to treating the people, reduce their medical expenses, and procure some herbs I need, I can offer you some guidance in medicine.”
Lin Yang needed a large supply of medicinal herbs for his practice. Buying them himself was too troublesome.
Qi Yixin certainly had channels to obtain such herbs, which would make things easier.
Especially rare herbs like Dragon Salvia—one plant wasn’t nearly enough.
“Thank you, Divine Doctor Lin. I’ll do exactly as you say. Please give me a list of the herbs you need, and I’ll gather them for you.”
Qi Yixin instantly brightened, content to receive Lin Yang’s guidance.
Half an hour quickly passed; Lin Yang returned to the ward and removed the silver needles.
Cao Keming immediately expelled a large amount of foul, black blood.
With the toxins purged, his vital signs on the instruments gradually returned to normal.
Lin Yang wrote a prescription for Cao Yanling.
“Take these herbs; they’ll restore his vitality. Though the poison is cleared, its ferocity damaged his core—he’ll need some care.”
Cao Yanling carefully tucked the prescription away.
“In half an hour, Director Cao should wake up. Take good care of him. I’ll take my leave.”
Zhang Shuyun and her daughter thanked him again and kept Lin Yang’s phone number.
Murong Yun and Murong Wan’er accompanied Lin Yang out of the hospital.
“Thank you, Mister Lin,” Murong Yun suddenly said.
“Why are you thanking me?” Lin Yang smiled.
“For helping me gain such a great favor with the Cao family. Director Cao isn’t entirely upright, but he’s honest, and earning a favor from him is no easy feat.”
“Then you really should thank me. But just a verbal thanks? That’s not very sincere,” Lin Yang teased.
“How would you like me to thank you?”
“How would you choose to thank me?”
“By offering myself to you, perhaps?” Murong Yun smiled, lips pressed together.
“Uh…” Lin Yang was taken aback.
“Sister…”
Murong Wan’er beside them seemed nervous.
“I’ll head off first—see you tonight.”
Lin Yang hurried away toward the parking lot.
“Sis, do you like Lin Yang?” Murong Wan’er asked.
“I think it’s not me who likes him, but you, isn’t it?” Murong Yun tapped her sister’s head.
Murong Wan’er blushed and said shyly, “I just… admire him, that’s all.”
“Then keep it up. I suspect Cao Yanling feels the same—she admires Lin Yang, too. The competition is fierce,” Murong Yun said.
“I won’t lose to her!” Murong Wan’er declared confidently.
“But, sis, what about you—how do you feel about Lin Yang?”
Murong Wan’er was confident she could compete with Cao Yanling, but if her sister liked Lin Yang too, she wouldn’t stand a chance.
Murong Yun pondered for a moment, then smiled easily, “Just like you—admiration and respect.”
“What? Really, sis? Don’t forget, you’re already engaged,” Murong Wan’er reminded her.
Though the sisters were close, when it came to competing for a man, sisterly affection was set aside.
As the saying goes, there are no fathers and sons on the battlefield, and—when it comes to love—no sisters either.
