Chapter 59: The Grandmaster’s Son
As soon as Dou Jun spoke, the others became excited, eager to gossip and ask what had happened.
“He offended Qi Tianyong from Tianxin Pharmaceuticals.”
“Qi Tianyong is a ruthless man—anyone who dares cross him is lucky to survive with their skin intact.”
“Lin Yang, did you lose a hand or a foot? Which hospital are you waiting to die in now?”
Seeing Dou Jun repeatedly tagging him, Lin Yang merely smiled and replied, “Sorry to disappoint you, I’m perfectly fine. But what about you? I heard Qi Tianyong gave you a few slaps—looked pretty serious. Does your face still hurt? Has the swelling gone down?”
“Bullshit! When did Qi Tianyong ever hit me?” Dou Jun immediately retorted with a string of curses.
“You know best whether you were hit or not. Plenty of people saw you kneeling and begging for mercy.”
With that, Lin Yang lost interest in the conversation and put his phone aside.
In the Imperial Garden, Dou Jun’s face turned livid with rage. He cursed, “Lin Yang, just you wait. Dare to expose me? I’ll make you regret it.”
Lin Yimo called Lin Yang to apologize. She meant well and hadn’t expected things to turn out like this.
“It’s alright. Not worth getting angry over them.”
After hanging up, Lin Yang couldn’t be bothered to check the group chat any longer. He had just set his phone aside when Cao Yanling arrived.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, Mr. Lin.”
Cao Yanling wore a light dress and subtle makeup, looking fresh and lovely.
“I just got here myself,” Lin Yang replied.
While Cao Yanling went to collect the tickets, Lin Yang bought some snacks and popcorn. The two headed towards the ticket checkpoint.
“Miss Cao, you’re here to see a movie too?”
Just then, they encountered a man and a woman.
“Yes,” Cao Yanling replied coolly, not particularly friendly.
“Who’s he? Looks unfamiliar,” the man sized Lin Yang up with a flicker of hostility in his eyes.
“My friend, Mr. Lin Yang,” Cao Yanling said.
“Lin Yang? Never heard of him.”
The man then turned to Lin Yang. “Kid, what’s your relationship with Miss Cao?”
“Does that concern you?” Lin Yang shot back.
“Do you even know who you’re talking to? My name is Cheng Weiyi.”
“Never heard of you.”
A flash of coldness passed through Cheng Weiyi’s eyes. “My father is Cheng Kuo.”
“Doesn’t ring a bell.”
In truth, Lin Yang was well aware of Cheng Kuo’s reputation—one of the Four Grandmasters of Luo City, a dominant figure in the western district.
“My father is one of Luo City’s Four Grandmasters, and you claim not to know him? You’ve got quite the attitude.”
“So I’m told,” Lin Yang replied.
“Miss Cao is the woman I like. Who do you think you are, to go shopping and see a movie with her? Disappear from my sight at once, or you’ll regret it.”
Cheng Weiyi threatened outright.
“Cheng Weiyi, what’s wrong with you? Who I spend time with is none of your business,” Cao Yanling’s voice turned cold. “Besides, you’re here to see a movie with another woman and still have the nerve to say you like me? Shameless.”
Cao Yanling’s face was filled with disdain.
“Don’t misunderstand, she’s my cousin.”
Cheng Weiyi explained hastily, signaling to the woman, who quickly caught on. “Cousin, who is this Miss Cao?”
“She’s the daughter of Director Cao from the Bureau of Finance.”
“Whatever your relationship, I don’t care, and let me make this clear—I don’t like you. I never did, and I never will. Stop pestering me.”
Cao Yanling made no effort to hide her dislike for Cheng Weiyi.
“Yanling, how can you say that? You know better than anyone how I feel about you. Didn’t you say that once I became a Grandmaster, you’d marry me?”
Cheng Weiyi put on a wounded expression.
“Stop making things up, Cheng Weiyi! I never said any such thing.” Cao Yanling, afraid Lin Yang would misunderstand, hurried to explain. “Mr. Lin, I’ve never liked him, nor said anything like that.”
Hearing this, Cheng Weiyi was inwardly furious. To think that a proud woman like Cao Yanling would care so much about a stranger.
“It’s fine. Some people just enjoy deluding themselves—no need to get upset.”
Lin Yang smiled lightly.
“Who are you calling a pathetic lapdog?” Cheng Weiyi fumed outwardly but was secretly pleased; he’d been looking for an excuse to deal with Lin Yang.
“You, of course.”
Lin Yang was utterly unruffled. So what if he was the son of a Grandmaster? It meant nothing to him.
“You’re asking for it!”
Without another word, Cheng Weiyi raised his palm and struck at Lin Yang.
He practiced the Cheng family’s Eight Trigram Palm, famed for its shifting forms and swift strikes. Even standing nearby, Cao Yanling barely had time to react.
Lin Yang, snacks and drinks in hand, chose to dodge.
Cheng Weiyi’s first palm missed, and he immediately followed with a second strike.
Thanks to his agility, Lin Yang dodged with ease, moving as if he were merely strolling, completely unruffled.
“Cheng Weiyi, stop it right now!” Cao Yanling shouted.
“This brat dared insult me; I must teach him a lesson today. If I don’t smash his mouth, how will I save face?”
Cheng Weiyi attacked again and again, but Lin Yang sidestepped each blow, not even letting him brush his clothes.
“So you know martial arts, too. No wonder you’re so cocky,” Cheng Weiyi, after several failed attempts, was now truly angry.
With his identity revealed, attention in the cinema had already turned their way. People gathered, eager to witness the son of a Grandmaster in action.
“You’re too slow. Isn’t your father Cheng Kuo, the Grandmaster? How did he raise such a useless son? You’re an embarrassment to Master Cheng.”
Lin Yang’s remark struck a nerve, leaving Cheng Weiyi’s face dark with humiliation.
“That was just a warm-up! I only meant to shut your mouth, but now you won’t be leaving here on your own two feet.”
Cheng Weiyi planted his feet, spreading his arms in the opening stance of the Eight Trigram Palm, his gaze turning fierce.
“Cheng Weiyi, I told you to stop!” Cao Yanling knew Lin Yang could easily defeat him, but if he hurt Cheng Weiyi and angered Grandmaster Cheng Kuo, the consequences would be dire.
She tried to stop them, blocking Lin Yang’s path.
“What, you only dare hide behind a woman? Coward. If you’re a man, fight me openly!”
Cheng Weiyi sneered.
“Trying to provoke me? If you insist on humiliating yourself, I’ll oblige.”
Lin Yang replied coolly.
Cao Yanling tried to persuade him, “Mr. Lin, let it go. Cheng Weiyi is insufferable, but if you really hurt him and provoke Master Cheng, there will be serious consequences.”
“Hurt me? You think he could hurt me? Miss Cao, do you even know what you’re saying?”
Feeling insulted, Cheng Weiyi lost all patience and, ignoring Cao Yanling’s attempt to block him, launched his attack.
