Murong Yun saw Li Yan’s attitude and slowly shook her head with a frosty look.

“If that is your attitude, then there is no need for me to make this call. Mr. Lin will not treat her.”

“The Fengyang Qin clan wants him to cure someone? Does he dare refuse? Even if he has a reputation as a divine physician, before the Qin family he must bow his head and obey without question!”

Li Yan lifted her brow, her haughty, overbearing air unchanged in the slightest.

“Murong Yun, I am ordering you to call him at once. Do not forget your place. Miss Yiling’s accident in Luo City is not something you can escape responsibility for. You are only the manager of a tiny branch of the Murong family. Even the Murong clan in Nandu is nothing but an ant before our Qin family.”

Li Yan put sycophancy and borrowed power on full display, every other word invoking the Fengyang Qin clan.

A cold gleam flashed through Murong Yun’s beautiful eyes.

“The one who should not forget her place is you. You are nothing but a secretary, so what are you putting on airs for? The Fengyang Qin clan may indeed stand high above others, but are you one of them? To me, you seem more imposing, more overbearing, than Miss Yiling herself.”

“Your behavior is very much like an old saying about an animal acting on a human’s authority.”

Murong Yun did not directly say the words, but the meaning could not have been clearer.

Li Yan was not foolish; she naturally understood the implication.

“Murong Yun! How dare you say I’m acting on borrowed power like a dog?” Li Yan exploded with anger.

Of course she knew perfectly well that she was exactly that kind of person, but knowing it herself did not mean she could stomach hearing it from someone else.

Murong Yun openly humiliating her in front of everyone—how was Li Yan supposed to swallow that?

“You said it yourself. It seems Secretary Li is quite self-aware after all.”

One sentence from Murong Yun sent Li Yan reeling again.

In intelligence and presence alike, how could someone who was only a secretary possibly be Murong Yun’s match?

In just a few exchanges, Murong Yun had left Li Yan looking thoroughly embarrassed.

“You!”

Li Yan flew into a rage and raised her hand, trying to slap Murong Yun across the face.

“If you dare touch me even once, I’ll make sure you never leave Luo City!”

Murong Yun saw what she intended and showed no fear whatsoever. Instead, she arched her brows and crushed Li Yan’s momentum outright with her own imposing bearing.

Li Yan’s hand froze in midair, and in the end she did not dare strike.

At that moment, Qin Yiling’s accompanying bodyguard also stepped up beside Li Yan to bolster their side.

At once, the ward grew thick with tension.

Qin Yiling’s bodyguard was an eighth-rank expert. If a fight really broke out, no one there would be able to stop him.

Yet Murong Yun still showed not the slightest sign of panic or fear. Her bearing was steady, and her courage exceptional.

Just as both sides remained locked in stalemate, Qin Yiling, whose condition had eased, gradually regained consciousness on the hospital bed.

Earlier, every place on her body where the blood-boil poison rash had appeared had itched unbearably. After the toxic lesions burst and ulcerated, they had become piercingly painful as well, leaving her tormented to the brink of collapse.

Now, however, she could clearly feel that the pain in her body had lessened considerably. The maddening itch had also faded, and a cool sensation spread through the wounds.

Though her mind was still somewhat hazy, she could more or less tell what was happening in the room.

“Secretary Li, mind your manners. Step back.”

Qin Yiling said weakly from the bed.

“Miss Yiling, how do you feel?” Li Yan and the other two hurried to the bedside to check on her.

“The symptoms have eased a great deal,” Qin Yiling said.

Li Yan was secretly delighted, not only because Qin Yiling was improving, but more importantly because if this Mr. Lin truly could cure the blood-boil poison rash, then she would not have to die along with her.

“I vaguely heard just now that this medicine was prescribed by a miracle doctor named Lin? Miss Murong, could you please trouble yourself to invite this miracle doctor to the hospital? If he can cure this illness, I will be deeply grateful and reward him handsomely.”

Qin Yiling spoke to Murong Yun.

“Miss, you may not know this, but that fellow surnamed Lin is terribly full of himself. That is exactly why I argued with Murong Yun. To be able to treat a member of the Qin family is an opportunity countless people would kill for, and he still dares to put on airs.”

Li Yan still did not change her condescending attitude.

“Shut up!”

Qin Yiling snapped.

“If this miracle doctor can cure this disease, then he is truly a miracle doctor. Do you know what sort of status a miracle doctor has? Even our Qin family must treat such a person with respect and as an honored guest. No one wants to offend a true miracle doctor. Apologize to Miss Murong immediately.”

As a direct descendant of the Qin family, Qin Yiling had received a different kind of upbringing and thus had a broader outlook. She knew all too well what kind of standing a miracle doctor possessed.

Li Yan had actually dared to be so rude. If she offended the miracle doctor and he refused to treat her, she would be finished.

Qin Yiling was tired beyond endurance of the suffering and no longer wished to be tormented like this.

“If Miss Qin says so.”

Since Qin Yiling had taken such a stance, Murong Yun naturally gave her face and her expression softened considerably.

“Please forgive the trouble, Miss Murong, and help me ask this miracle doctor to intervene. This illness has truly tormented me so badly that I have been driven to the brink of despair.”

“I will contact Mr. Lin right away, but I cannot guarantee that he will come immediately.”

Murong Yun said.

“I believe in Miss Murong’s means and ability. In Luo City, there is nothing you cannot accomplish. My life now depends entirely on you. So long as this miracle doctor comes and cures me, then when the Qin family begins developing in Nandu, their first choice of partner will surely be the Murong family.”

Qin Yiling had no choice but to raise the stakes. She was the chief person responsible for this inspection trip to Nandu, and on this matter she had absolute authority.

“I will do my utmost,” Murong Yun said with a smile.

“Old man, I think Miss Qin should not place too much hope in this. A doctor cooped up in Luo City may merely have stumbled upon a prescription that eases the blood-boil poison rash. His medical skill may not be that impressive.”

“To expect him to cure this illness—if I may speak frankly, the chance is zero.”

Tang Daomin had failed to seize the opportunity to curry favor with the Qin family, and he felt quite bitter about it. Unable to hold back, he began speaking sourly.
