Chapter 91: Investigating the Cause of Illness

Murong Yun paid no heed to the deliberately contemptuous words of Tang Daomin. It was instead her secretary, Li Yan, who spoke up: "Miss Murong, we have done as you wished and offered our apologies. Let us hope this 'Divine Doctor Lin' truly has the skill to cure this illness—otherwise... hmph..."
Though Li Yan left her sentence unfinished, the threat in her tone was unmistakable. She was still nursing her grievance over having been forced to apologize earlier.
"Rather than all that, I'd like to know—do you hope he can cure this disease, or hope he cannot?" Murong Yun asked.
"What a pointless question! Of course it's best if he can cure it," Li Yan replied without hesitation.
"Then keep your mouth shut. You talk more than anyone, and no one would take you for a mute if you stayed silent."
Once again, Murong Yun left Li Yan speechless. But given that they were currently in need of someone's help, Li Yan could only swallow her anger and endure.
Murong Yun stepped out of the ward and called Lin Yang, describing Qin Yiling's condition in detail.
"Just as I expected—it's Blood Carbuncle Toxin Rash," Lin Yang said.
"Mr. Lin, can you treat this illness?" Murong Yun bit her lip and asked hesitantly.
After all, even Tang Daomin had said that this was a strange disease created by the Blood Fiend a hundred years ago, extremely rare, and only the Medicine Sage could cure it. That was why Murong Yun had been unable to refute Tang Daomin's disparaging remarks. Even when making this call to Lin Yang, she had not held out much hope.
"Of course I can cure it," Lin Yang's affirmative voice came through the phone, and Murong Yun was instantly overcome with delighted surprise.
"Really?"
"Have I ever lied to you?" Lin Yang said.
"That's wonderful! Tang Daomin said only the elusive Medicine Sage could cure this illness, and I was already feeling quite desperate. I never imagined that Mr. Lin's medical skills could rival the legendary Medicine Sage!" Murong Yun's face was filled with joy and excitement.
To know someone whose medical skill matched the Medicine Sage, and to have befriended him—this was truly thrilling and something to be proud of!
"The Medicine Sage's medical skill is unmatched in the world. I still have a long way to go. I merely happen to know the treatment for Blood Carbuncle Toxin Rash," Lin Yang said. "Besides, don't get too excited just yet. Though I can cure it, I haven't agreed to actually step in and save anyone."
Lin Yang doused the excited Murong Yun with a bucket of cold water.

"Mr. Lin, are you joking with me? Didn't you promise you would help me when the time came?" Murong Yun's voice suddenly turned soft and coaxing over the phone, with more than a hint of playful pleading.
"That was because I didn't know beforehand that someone from the Qin family had contracted Blood Carbuncle Toxin Rash. This disease is extremely rare—no one has contracted it in nearly a hundred years. Now, the Qin family members have only just arrived in Luocheng, and this disease appears. Don't you find that a little strange?"
Lin Yang knew Murong Yun was a clever woman; he didn't need to spell everything out for her to understand.
"I will investigate this as quickly as possible. But how much longer can Miss Qin's condition hold out?"
"Don't worry. With the prescription I've given, taken internally and applied externally, it will ease the symptoms. She won't die. As for whether I'll step in to treat her, let me think it over first."
With that, Lin Yang hung up.
The sudden appearance of Blood Carbuncle Toxin Rash filled Lin Yang with deep suspicion. He wondered whether it had something to do with his master, the Medicine Sage, or whether it was directed at him, the successor. Perhaps it was a trap laid by some enemy of his master's. Until he understood the situation clearly, Lin Yang would not act rashly. Otherwise, the other party would quickly pinpoint him. Given his current strength, facing an enemy of his master's would be like smashing an egg against a rock—certain death. For his own safety, Lin Yang had to be cautious.
Murong Yun put away her phone and paced outside the ward for a while before going back in.
Li Yan asked impatiently, "When is this Divine Doctor Lin coming?"
Li Yan felt an itch spreading over her body, and faint red blotches were beginning to appear on her arms—signs that the Blood Carbuncle Toxin Rash was about to break out. She was terrified.
"Please step outside for a moment. I'd like to have a few words with Miss Qin alone," Murong Yun said.
"Can you just give us a straight answer? Is he coming or not? Can he cure it or not? And why are you sending us out?" Li Yan grabbed Murong Yun's arm and pressed for an answer.
"Li Yan! Mind your manners."
Though Qin Yiling lay on her sickbed, her authority remained intact. A single sentence made Li Yan release her grip and dare not speak another word.
"All of you, leave us."
The others filed out of the ward one by one, leaving only Qin Yiling and Murong Yun.
"Miss Murong, if you have something to say, please speak freely. All I want to know is—can this Divine Doctor Lin cure my illness?" Qin Yiling asked.

"He can."
"Are you certain?" A look of joy immediately appeared on Qin Yiling's face.
"Absolutely certain. Mr. Lin said so himself, and he would never deceive me. However, he won't begin treatment right away."
"Whatever conditions he has, I can agree to them all," Qin Yiling said urgently.
"Miss Qin, please don't be impatient. Blood Carbuncle Toxin Rash is extremely rare—it hasn't appeared in nearly a hundred years. And yet it has suddenly broken out on you now. There must be something suspicious behind this. Furthermore, whoever is capable of spreading this disease is certainly no ordinary person. Perhaps they are enemies of the Qin family. Mr. Lin doesn't want to get dragged into this, nor does he wish to offend an unknown and terrifying adversary. So if you want Mr. Lin to step in, we must first get to the bottom of this."
Qin Yiling was an equally perceptive woman, and the moment Murong Yun explained it, she understood.
"But in my current condition, there's no time to investigate, is there?" Qin Yiling furrowed her brow.
"Mr. Lin said that the prescription he provided can be taken internally and applied externally. It will ease the symptoms and suppress the toxin rash, keeping you alive."
"Then let the hospital prepare plenty of that medicinal soup for us. As a matter of fact, I'm also very curious to know how I contracted this disease, and who exactly is behind it, wanting to harm me."
Qin Yiling, true to her status as a direct descendant of the Qin family, acted with swift decisiveness. Enduring her pain, she sat up from the sickbed and called all three of her subordinates back in, beginning to assign tasks for the investigation.
"Miss, shouldn't our top priority be treating the illness first? Look—my hands are already starting to show symptoms, and the other two are showing signs as well," Li Yan said fearfully.
"I'll have the hospital provide more of the medicinal soup. Once you take it, the outbreak will be alleviated. Only by getting to the bottom of this entire affair can we truly be saved. That is an order!" Qin Yiling raised an elegant brow, leaving no room for doubt.
"If there's anything the Murong family can help with, Miss Qin only needs to say the word," Murong Yun offered from the side.
"The onset time of Blood Carbuncle Toxin Rash is twenty-four hours. Calculating from that, I started showing symptoms around nine o'clock last night, which means I was infected sometime between the afternoon of the day before yesterday and nine o'clock that evening." Qin Yiling immediately began her analysis. The day before yesterday, she had departed from Fengyang and arrived in Nanling City. Her movements had been from Fengyang to Nanling, then from Nanling Airport to the hotel. The most likely suspects were naturally those who had been in contact with her.
"I think the primary focus of suspicion should still be on Fengyang, and secondarily on the period after arriving in Nanling. The airplane ride itself is probably the least likely place of infection," Murong Yun said, helping analyze the clues from the side. Only by narrowing down the leads first could the investigation proceed effectively.
