Chapter 98: Keeping Matters Separate
“Two century-old ginseng roots? Damn it, this is outrageous!”
Hearing this, Liang Jian was instantly furious. Not only had his son been injured, but someone actually dared to blackmail him—this was absolutely intolerable.
“Go have the surgery first. I’ll handle this matter myself. Who does he think he is, shitting on the Liang family? No matter what background he has, I’ll make sure he pays dearly.”
Liang Kuan felt much more at ease hearing his father’s words. He knew his old man was truly angry now, and Lin Yang was as good as dead.
Liu Fuyu also took Liang Kuan’s hand to comfort him. “Brother Kuan, focus on your surgery. I’ll be right outside waiting for you.”
“Then please stay here and accompany my son during the operation. There’s also a very important figure at City First Hospital—Miss Murong is here too. I need to go see her.”
Liang Jian instructed Yu Ping and Liu Fuyu.
“President Liang, I heard that Wang Jia Qian, the vice president of the Marriott Chamber of Commerce, has been dismissed. I’d like to congratulate you in advance on becoming the new vice president. From now on, our Liu family will rely entirely on your support.”
Yu Ping took this opportunity to flatter Liang Jian.
“Becoming vice president is not yet decided. It’s too early to talk about that,” Liang Jian waved his hand.
“With your abilities, connections, and status within the Chamber, there’s no doubt the vice president position should be yours,” Yu Ping continued to fawn.
“Well, I’ll take your good wishes then. Rest assured, since my son is dating your daughter, we might become one family in the future. Naturally, I’ll help you.”
A hollow promise requires no capital; Liang Jian’s words made Yu Ping beam with joy.
“Yes, yes, we’ll be family sooner or later. By the way, who’s the important figure at City First Hospital? Since Miss Murong is here too, could you introduce me? I’d like to make an appearance in front of her.”
Yu Ping said eagerly.
Liang Jian immediately put on a stern face.
“Miss Murong is busy with very important matters. She doesn’t have time to see you.”
“I was being presumptuous. Please don’t be angry, President Liang.”
Yu Ping immediately realized she had been too impatient and quickly apologized.
“As for the important figure at City First Hospital, it’s not someone you can approach. Stop prying. Take good care of my son and don’t ask unnecessary questions—it won’t do you any good!”
With that, Liang Jian swept his sleeve and left.
Although Yu Ping was eager to curry favor with the Murong family, she understood she had to be patient for now and obediently waited outside the operating room with Liu Fuyu.
Although the news about the Qin family head’s strange illness was kept under wraps, some inside the Marriott Chamber of Commerce knew about it.
Liang Jian was one of them.
He rushed to the hospital, partly because his son had been injured, and partly to ingratiate himself and vie for the vice presidency of the Marriott Chamber.
As for the Qin family, Liang Jian didn’t dare to hope he could curry favor with them.
Suddenly, Yu Ping, who was waiting outside the operating room, turned pale and screamed.
The tampering Lin Yang had done to her triggered a reaction—at three acupuncture points, surges of chaotic vital energy raced violently, causing Yu Ping unbearable pain. She collapsed to the ground, writhing in agony, frightening Liu Fuyu who immediately called for help.
Doctors and nurses rushed over, lifted the struggling Yu Ping, and rushed her into another emergency room for treatment.
Yu Ping’s face was ashen, drenched in sweat, and she could barely speak beyond her cries of pain. Her entire body convulsed.
Though the doctors tried their best to relieve her pain, nothing worked.
Liu Fuyu was terrified and helpless, quickly calling Liu Chengzhi.
Liu Chengzhi dropped everything at the company and rushed to the hospital.
Unaware of what happened earlier at Emperor’s Garden, Liu Chengzhi arrived at the hospital to find Yu Ping still in severe pain, twisting and contorting on the bed. If the medical staff hadn’t held her down, she would have rolled on the floor.
“Doctor, what’s going on? Please find a way to help her!”
Liu Chengzhi urged anxiously.
“We’ve tried everything we can think of. Honestly, we’re powerless,” the doctor replied helplessly. He had never seen such a strange illness. Aside from the pain, Yu Ping’s body showed no other abnormalities or identifiable cause.
Just as Liu Chengzhi and Liu Fuyu felt at a loss, Yu Ping’s excruciating pain gradually lessened and finally subsided.
But she was utterly exhausted and shaken—this pain was worse than childbirth, searing to the bone.
The doctors quickly ran a full check-up; all indicators were normal.
“Wife, how are you feeling?” Liu Chengzhi sat by her bedside, his face full of concern.
Yu Ping trembled and convulsed as she said, “It’s Lin Yang—he must have done this. It’s his revenge against me.”
“That’s nonsense! He was fine. Why would he want to hurt you?” Liu Chengzhi said.
Liu Fuyu then recounted the afternoon’s events to Liu Chengzhi.
Hearing that Liang Kuan had hired a formidable expert, Deng Jinkui, to take revenge on Lin Yang, Liu Chengzhi was shocked.
“Did you tell Liang Kuan where Xiao Yang lives? Are you trying to get him killed?”
“Dad, why are you so worked up? He’s vile but tough, very much alive. It’s not that easy to kill him! Besides, it was Lin Yang himself who said to tell Liang Kuan the address. You can’t blame us,” Liu Fuyu argued defensively.
“So what happened afterward? How is Xiao Yang now?” Liu Chengzhi asked anxiously.
After Liu Fuyu’s explanation, Liu Chengzhi was also caught off guard.
“No wonder Xiao Yang isn’t afraid of Liang Kuan’s revenge—he has backup. As long as he’s fine, that’s what matters,” Liu Chengzhi said.
“He’s fine, but I’m not! Liu Chengzhi, are you betraying me? I almost died from the pain just now. It has to be Lin Yang’s doing!” Yu Ping, regaining some strength, cursed at Liu Chengzhi.
“Even if it was him, that’s on you. Besides, the doctor said there’s no serious problem. Don’t dwell on it,” Liu Chengzhi comforted her.
“But what if it happens again? I don’t want to experience that pain again. You don’t know what it feels like—bone-deep, unbearable agony. That little bastard is so cruel to hurt me like this.”
Thinking of the pain, Yu Ping trembled uncontrollably.
“What can I do? I’m not a doctor,” Liu Chengzhi said helplessly.
“Call that little bastard and find out exactly what he did to me,” Yu Ping demanded.
“All right,” Liu Chengzhi said reluctantly, leaving the ward to call Lin Yang.
At Emperor’s Garden, Lin Yang saw Liu Chengzhi’s call and knew it was about Yu Ping.
He silenced his phone and set it aside, not answering.
He respected Liu Chengzhi as an elder but had already been more tolerant of Yu Ping than deserved. That respect didn’t mean he would tolerate Yu Ping’s behavior.
Lin Yang always kept clear boundaries between kindness and resentment.
