Chapter 163 Naturally, Someone Will Kill You
"Nezha's true origins? Isn't he the son of Li Jing and his wife?" Jiang Yuan asked, feigning surprise.
Seeing that the Human Sovereign's interest had been successfully piqued, Master Taiyi felt a momentary wave of relief, despite having nowhere to run.
If he could just stall for time, perhaps his master would be able to sense his predicament.
After all, this was the territory of the Explanation Sect; if a Twelve Golden Immortal were to be slain here, even a Saint would lose face.
With a mysterious smile, Master Taiyi said, "The Human Sovereign knows only one side of the story. Nezha was indeed born to Lady Yin, but he is not Li Jing's biological son."
Jiang Yuan paused. Was there juicy gossip to be had here?
Could the honest Li Jing actually have been cuckolded? That seemed utterly absurd! Lady Yin certainly did not look like the type.
"Explain yourself clearly, Daoist. I have no patience for one-sided information!" Jiang Yuan said coldly.
Master Taiyi smiled faintly. "Li Jing and his wife were indeed meant to conceive another child, but that child was not Nezha."
"Does the Human Sovereign know why Lady Yin was pregnant with Nezha for three years before giving birth?"
"Speak," Jiang Yuan said, unwilling to waste any breath.
"Because Nezha was nurtured by my master, Primordial Beginning of Heaven, using the pure vital essence of Li Jing and his third child."
"In other words, the third child of Li Jing and his wife was either already dead or had fused completely with Nezha," Master Taiyi explained.
Hearing this, Jiang Yuan frowned slightly. Nezha truly was not the biological child of Li Jing and his wife? This exceeded his expectations.
Yet, upon closer reflection, it made complete sense.
If he had truly been the child of Li Jing and his wife, Nezha could never have possessed such formidable talent, capable of elevating his own cultivation realm automatically.
Judging by the aptitudes of the two brothers Jinzha and Muzha, it was impossible for Nezha to have reached such a realm at such a tender age.
Now that Jiang Yuan knew Nezha's cultivation had been sealed by Primordial Beginning of Heaven while his innate talent grew on its own, it only further confirmed that Li Jing and his wife were not his true parents. The child who was originally meant to be Nezha had likely perished, or perhaps merged into Nezha's being.
After all, to completely absorb that pure vital essence was no different from being carried in Lady Yin's womb.
Nezha was both their son and not their son; though a linguistic twist, it was the truth.
Jiang Yuan felt a flash of irritation. He could now be certain that Nezha was merely a pawn.
Furthermore, this pawn might not even have been specifically tailored to deal with him alone. To be so meticulously arranged by Primordial Beginning of Heaven, how could he possibly be meant solely to deal with a Human Sovereign who was considered a spent force at the time?
"What on earth is Primordial Beginning of Heaven's purpose in making such elaborate arrangements for Nezha? And what is Nezha's true form?" Jiang Yuan asked.
If Nezha had come into the world relying on pure vital essence, it meant his true form was not human, and perhaps not even any ordinary living creature.
Master Taiyi had not expected the Human Sovereign to guess so much of the truth so quickly, but the full reality was unknown even to him.
With a helpless, bitter smile, he replied, "I truly do not know this either. When my master ordered me to place Nezha into Lady Yin's womb, he merely told me to go to Chentang Pass upon Nezha's birth, take him as a disciple, and raise him well, for he would have great use in the future."
"As for the rest, I know nothing at all."
Catching a loophole in Master Taiyi's words, Jiang Yuan sneered and asked, "Since you personally placed Nezha into Lady Yin's abdomen, Daoist, you must know his true form. Don't tell me you never felt any curiosity about him."
"This..." Master Taiyi hesitated for a moment.
At last, he answered honestly, "I was indeed curious about Nezha at the time, and my master never forbade me from investigating his identity."
"Yet, in the end, I discovered nothing of his origins. When I delivered him to Chentang Pass, he was nothing more than a sphere of light."
"As for what lay within that light, I could never discern it clearly. No matter how I probed, I still could not pierce through the layer of light."
Jiang Yuan was somewhat perplexed. Nezha's true form was a ball of light?
What kind of operation was this?
Light?
Could Nezha's true form possibly be Ultraman???
Jiang Yuan thought with a touch of dark humor. But if he really were Ultraman, he would probably amount to nothing in this primordial world.
"Does that mean Nezha must possess some special background?" Jiang Yuan raised an eyebrow.
"Judging by my speculation, he certainly does, but aside from my master, presumably no one knows," Master Taiyi analyzed.
Jiang Yuan slowly nodded. Master Taiyi likely had not lied about these matters.
Since he had even betrayed his own master, what else was there that he wouldn't tell?
Seeing Jiang Yuan's slow nod, Master Taiyi relaxed slightly. He looked at Jiang Yuan with hesitation and asked, "Does the Human Sovereign have any further questions?"
"If there are no more questions, I should be taking my leave."
Master Taiyi was growing increasingly impatient to leave this place.
Every extra moment he lingered here added to his danger, which made him desperate to depart.
Hearing this, Jiang Yuan feigned confusion and asked, "Leaving? Where is the Daoist planning to go?"
"Surely that is not something the Human Sovereign needs to trouble himself with? I have answered all the questions the Human Sovereign asked, and the Human Sovereign agreed that once these questions were answered, you would no longer trouble me."
"Could it be that the Human Sovereign intends to go back on his word?" Master Taiyi frowned, sensing that something was amiss.
It appeared the Human Sovereign had no intention of letting him off lightly.
Sure enough, Master Taiyi heard Jiang Yuan reply with feigned astonishment, "Go back on my word? Go back on what word? When did I ever promise the Daoist that answering those questions meant I would stop troubling you?"
"All of this is merely your own wishful thinking! Did you truly believe you could abduct someone from the Great Shang military camp and walk away unscathed?"
Jiang Yuan's tone grew ice-cold toward the end, his words brimming with murderous intent.
"What is the meaning of the Human Sovereign? Do you intend to kill me?" Abandoning all pretense, Master Taiyi turned pale with rage.
Since the facade had already been shattered, Master Taiyi saw no need to humble himself before the Human Sovereign. He refused to believe that the Human Sovereign would truly dare to kill him on the territory of the Explanation Sect!
Seeing Master Taiyi's furious expression, Jiang Yuan merely smiled faintly.
Then, taking a step back, he said, "You guessed correctly, Daoist. I do indeed intend to kill you."
"Otherwise, everyone would come to believe they can meddle in the affairs of Great Shang—especially someone as ignorant of the immensity of heaven and earth as you, who actually dared to snatch people from within a Great Shang military camp."
"I must say, I truly admire the Daoist's courage."
Hearing that the Human Sovereign genuinely intended to kill him, Master Taiyi immediately summoned his Nine Dragons Divine Fire罩 (Divine Fire罩). Regardless of whether Bai Ze was in the half-step Saint realm, sitting passively and awaiting death was out of the question!
"Does the Human Sovereign intend to do it yourself?" Master Taiyi sneered, clearly looking down on Jiang Yuan's cultivation realm.
"Naturally, I would not be so arrogant as to use my Golden Immortal realm to deal with you."
"As I said earlier, Lady Shiji is fated to face this tribulation with you, so it is only fitting that Lady Shiji be the one to kill you," Jiang Yuan said with a faint smile.
