Chapter 7: The Kidney-Stealing Gang
Soon, the car stopped at the entrance of Whispering Spring Villa.
On the surface, this appeared to be a high-end residential area.
Security guards were stationed at the gate.
Judging by the entire city, very few communities had security as tight as this one.
Lü Yi, the deputy appointed by the old master, was already waiting here.
Lü Yi specialized in criminal investigation and logistics, appearing to be around thirty years old.
As soon as he saw Shen Ye step out of the car, he immediately approached him. “Mr. Shen, this is Whispering Spring Villa, the base for our unit. The compound consists of ten buildings in total. The central building is the headquarters of the branch, where Captain Shen works. If you need to meet Captain Shen, you can go there. The other eight buildings serve as offices for squads one through eight.”
“I just want to know where the intelligence building is,” Shen Ye replied briskly, urgency in his tone. “As for what each building inside Whispering Spring Villa is responsible for, I’ll find out when I have time.”
Lü Yi’s face showed a hint of embarrassment. “The last building—the tenth one—is the intelligence office.”
“Alright, lead the way,” Shen Ye nodded.
They passed through the villa’s security and entered the compound.
Lü Yi led the way and soon arrived at the tenth building, a structure about ten stories tall.
Inside, it resembled a library.
Lü Yi pointed to several windows. “Those are the intelligence inquiry counters. Of course, if you want to check the files yourself, you can take your time.”
“No time to sift through files. I’ll ask directly,” Shen Ye said, stepping up to one of the windows. “I’m Shen Ye, a newly inducted regular member. I request access to the intelligence.”
Behind the window sat a girl with a ponytail named Su Lingxi. When Nangong Zhu first began investigating the Chopsticks Hero case, he called her to transfer all the case files related to chopsticks across the country. However, the very first case had already been thoroughly destroyed by a dashing old man.
Su Lingxi immediately began reviewing the files, feeling a mixture of surprise and disdain. Special Operations rarely admitted new members, yet this Shen Ye was the grandson of Captain Shen. Clearly, he was a legacy recruit, brought in through family connections.
The Special Operations unit offered excellent benefits. Every official member was granted a 150-square-meter apartment upon joining, along with various perks. Naturally, the unit couldn’t avoid having legacy members.
But Special Operations often demanded risking one’s life.
When the going got tough, the legacy recruits usually disappeared, hiding at the back.
Thus, legacy members were generally looked down upon.
Nevertheless, being the grandson of Captain Shen, Su Lingxi could only nod helplessly. “What intelligence do you want to check?”
“In Zengzhi District, are there any kidney-harvesting gangs? What’s their background? Where do they usually operate?” Shen Ye asked directly.
Su Lingxi began searching immediately.
After a moment, she printed out a dossier and handed it to Shen Ye through the window.
Shen Ye scanned the information.
Indeed, there was a kidney-harvesting gang active in Zengzhi District.
Their background wasn’t insignificant.
Harvesting a kidney wasn’t a simple matter.
Before the operation, the victim’s kidney had to be matched with a patient for compatibility.
Therefore, the gang needed a hospital to cooperate with the verification process.
Correspondingly, there was a semi-underground hospital in Zengzhi District called Huaniu Hospital that worked with them.
The gang leader was known as Left-Handed Cutter Zuo Leng.
According to the files, he was ranked as a “Three-Bag Master”—a formidable, though not top-tier, fighter.
Shen Ye pondered. When he had fought Qin Zhengtian, he encountered numerous formidable experts, including the ruthless Du Sha. That was due to Qin’s vast wealth and extensive contacts, allowing him to hire such fighters.
Ordinarily, the underworld didn’t have many “Five-Bag Masters.”
The files also revealed the regular haunts of this kidney-harvesting gang.
“All right, Lü Yi, let’s go,” Shen Ye said grimly.
Lü Yi immediately followed but voiced his concern. “According to what we saw, the gang leader, Left-Handed Cutter Zuo Leng, is a Three-Bag Master. If we rush in recklessly, we might not be a match for him. Why don’t we get Captain Shen’s approval first and have some experts assist us?”
Lü Yi, as Shen Ye’s deputy, still regarded him as merely the captain’s grandson—a typical legacy recruit, likely lacking real ability.
“There’s no need. Come with me. Of course, if you don’t want to, you can stay behind,” Shen Ye said coolly.
Lü Yi was startled by Shen Ye’s tone but obediently followed.
...
After a while, a woman about 1.6 meters tall with a somewhat alluring appearance and delicate features, looking around twenty-five or twenty-six, entered the intelligence office.
This was Deng Xiaozhi, an official member of the Eighth Squad. Though she was actually thirty, women these days tended to look younger.
“Lingxi, where shall we eat today?” she asked.
Su Lingxi replied, “Xiaozhi, can you guess who just came to see me?”
“Who? A new admirer?” Deng Xiaozhi teased.
“No, it was Shen Ye. He’s the new member of your Eighth Squad,” Su Lingxi said.
Deng Xiaozhi’s eyes flickered as she thought. “I remember. Our Eighth Squad did recently recruit a new member. Rumor has it he’s Captain Shen’s grandson—a legacy recruit.”
“Yes, I checked the files. The family ties confirm he’s the captain’s grandson—a legacy recruit,” Su Lingxi said. “But this legacy recruit is overestimating himself. He came asking about the kidney-harvesting gang in Zengzhi District. Their leader is Left-Handed Cutter Zuo Leng, a Three-Bag Master.”
“A legacy recruit trying to challenge Left-Handed Cutter Zuo Leng? That’s just courting death. This new legacy recruit is quite restless. Well, reality will teach him a lesson. Once Left-Handed Cutter puts him in his place, he’ll quietly hide in logistics and stop venturing out,” Deng Xiaozhi sneered.
“Who are you two talking about?” a sturdy man about 1.7 meters tall, carrying a massive broadsword and exuding muscle, walked in. He appeared to be around thirty. This was Li Da, a skilled member of the Eighth Squad and a suitor of Su Lingxi.
“We’re talking about the new legacy recruit in the Eighth Squad,” Deng Xiaozhi said. “The grandson of Captain Shen. His name’s Shen Ye. He actually went to provoke the kidney gang leader Left-Handed Cutter Zuo Leng.”
“Oh? This legacy recruit has some guts?” Li Da laughed disdainfully. “But having guts doesn’t mean he has strength.”
